Welcome to Fire Monkey Productions: Blog Edition!

We've moved to blog form! We're in the special limited edition blog format! Except .. not limited edition ...

A big hello and welcome to you all who have visited from the website to blog! :)

First up i've had a couple of people asking and emailing about the sudden change! That and a couple of other questions, so right off lets answer them!

After 5 years is Fire Monkey dead??

LOL! No no .. Fire Monkey is still going strong! Thanks for your concern though! :) Still shooting for various productions and loving it! Fire Monkey Productions has not died, it's simply evolved like a pokemon in the digital world! ... by the way if Fire Monkey was a pokemon it would indeed be Chimchar.

Infact - here is a video celebrating 5 years of being behind a camera! :)

Why is Fire Monkey Productions blogging?

It's the power of the times and lifestyle changes! I've become very busy in life and find that in blog form I can update and upload on the fly! I'm taking the expanded approach from twitter - so instead of updating though HTML then FTP - it's straight up bloggy goodness :)

Hey .. where did the Cloud Factory go?

The Cloud Factory is still around! New design toys will be updated in this blog, and also on the DeviantArt page :D

So how is this Fire Monkey blog going to work? I am skeptical.

Actually .. I made up this question. Haha! Well i'm going to play it by ear - update as I got along with new toy designs or video work I do and generally ... blog ... Fire Monkey style!

... well that makes it sound more exciting than i might be but hey! Who knows? :D

About Fire Monkey Productions ....

In this website you will find SD/HD/FILM work that Daniel Yun has Camera Operated on and has also been the Director of Photography as well. You will also find custom designed art toys which he has created, which are for sale and can be commissioned!

With his boisterous energy and constant moving around onset - as well as his ability to find strange places on the ground or up a tree to shoot angles from with camera in hand, Daniel got his nickname ‘Monkey’. Fueled by his passion for filmmaking, he aptly named his own freelance company ‘Fire Monkey Productions’.

His beginning into camera work began head first in the world of Wedding Videography in 2003. In this field he learnt very quickly how to shoot, focus, time and be creative spontaneously. With these learnt abilities, he then went on to focus on short movies where he began developing skills with lighting as well as his own style of camera work.

Since his beginning in 2003, Daniel has been working for independent production companies shooting short movies, commercial ads and music videos.

FAVORITE CAMERA:

It’s hard to pick a favorite, but it comes down to two choices -

1. Even though it is standard definition, the trusty Sony PD170 has always been the all round champion in any environment or lighting condition. This camera is truly a workhorse!
2. Again, standard definition, but I love the motion and look of the Panasonic DVX100. This camera is standard definition at it’s peak!

Why no HD? Honorable mentions go to the FX1, EX1 and the HPX3000 - but the PD170 and DVX100 cameras are like old school nintendo games to me, just can’t let go of the classics!

FAVORITE SUBJECTS:

I love capturing the moment, whether it be the rain falling, kids playing, machinery working or just buildings standing mighty - I love the way light touches the subject and to catch that and the world in that moment is just magical.

SIGNATURE CAMERA STYLE:

Frenetic:
My signature style is in the moment 'Frenetic' - a style which I have been developing, which captures the actor in the world in real time - allowing them to act out naturally and constant without interruption. This style is crossed between Cinema Verite/Guerrilla shooting and on location ‘News camera’ shooting - and makes example of the camera to amplify the moment by consciously moving in the environment, making use of the environment and using deliberate timed zooming to capture emotion on the fly.

The results of this style is often effective for the directors I have shot for as their varying genres have been from drama, comedy, action, adventure and in music clips and commercials.

The benefits from the camera style that it is fast, creative in the moment, unique and is a very different way to capture the world lying before the lens.
